Rick P. Garey is a Lieutenant with the Essex Police Department where he has over eighteen years of service, currently in the administrative division. Rick spent twelve years in the Detective Division specializing in computer, white collar, and high profile criminal investigations. Rick was the first Vermont law enforcement officer to be recognized as a Computer Forensic Expert. Rick has testified as a Computer Forensic Expert in both Federal and State Vermont courts. In addition, he is a Certified Electronic Evidence Collection Specialist (IACIS) with hundreds of hours in training and investigations related to computers, computer crimes, and computer forensics. Rick has received letters of commendation for computer forensics work from both the U.S. Attorney (District of Vermont) and Chittenden County States Attorney. Rick holds numerous Letters of Commendation or Meritorious Service from Essex Police Department including, in 2001, an award as Employee of the Year. Rick is an adjunct instructor with the Computer & Digital Forensics program at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont where he teaches Computer Forensics and Cybercrime courses. He also teaches Computer Safety for Parents and On-Line Safety for Children for local schools and community organizations. He holds a B.S. in Marketing Management from Thomas College and a certificate from the Vermont Police Academy. His professional memberships include High Tech Crime Consortium, High Technology Crime Investigation Association, Vermont Internet Crimes Task Force, and International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists.

Gary C. Kessler is an Associate Professor of Computer & Digital Forensics and director of the Center for Digital Investigation at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont, where he has taught since 2000. Prior to that time, Gary was a Senior Network Security Analyst at SymQuest Group, a network integration consulting company, and Director of Information Technology and Senior Member of Technical Staff at Hill Associates, a telecommunications education and training firm. Gary is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Computer Examiner (CCE), has a B.A. in Mathematics from Humboldt State University, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Vermont, an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree from Nova Southeastern University, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Computing Technology in Education at Nova. He was instrumental in the adoption of computer crime legislation in Vermont and is the founding chair of the Vermont InfraGard chapter. He is a technical adviser to the Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) and Internet Crimes Task Forces, and a member of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA), High Tech Crime Consortium (HTCC), and International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners (ISFCE). Gary is the co-author of two professional texts and over sixty articles, a frequent speaker at industry events, on the editorial board of the Journal of Digital Forensics, Security and Law, and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Digital Forensic Practice.

Michael E. Schirling is Chief of the Burlington Police Department and a co-founder of the Vermont Internet Crimes and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces. Specializing in high technology investigations, he has been conducting Internet and Computer investigations and computer forensics for over ten years. Prior to that he was the Director of a multi-agency, multi-disciplinary sex crimes and major child abuse task force in Chittenden County, Vermont. He trains and has lectured to audiences including police officers, investigators and prosecutors regionally and nationally on topics of cybercrime investigation, computer forensics, criminal law, interview and interrogation, and child exploitation. He consults with a number of agencies and organizations such as the National District Attorneys Association and American Prosecutors Research Institute. Additionally, he an adjunct faculty member at Champlain College in Burlington, VT where he teaches computer forensics and cybercrime. In 2000, Mike was awarded a National Missing and Exploited Children's Award by the U.S. Department of Justice and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. He has conducted hundreds of computer forensic examinations over his career. He holds a B.A. in Political Science and a Masters Degree in Education, both from the University of Vermont.
